How did the Eagles do in the 2023 draft? If you ask me — amazing is not strong enough.

The Philadelphia Eagles 2023 draft was amazing, and as a die-hard Eagles fan, it’s time for me to review the picks we made. The Philadelphia Eagles, also known as the Philadelphia Bulldogs, added four talented players from Georgia to our roster during the draft weekend. Three of them were drafted, and we acquired one through a significant trade. We made smart choices that addressed our team’s needs on both offense and defense, and I’m excited to share the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2023 NFL Draft Review.

In the first round, at No. 9, we selected Jalen Carter, a phenomenal defensive tackle from Georgia. Carter was highly regarded as the top talent in the draft, and we only had to trade up one spot to secure him. It’s incredible how lucky we were because our GM, Howie Roseman, didn’t think we had a shot at Carter. Although there were concerns about a car accident involving Carter and his Pro Day performance, we believe he’s worth the risk. With other Georgia players like Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, Cox, and Graham on our roster, we feel confident that Carter will thrive. It’s a risk, but we hit a home run with this pick. Grade: A-

Our second first-round pick, at No. 30, was Nolan Smith, an edge rusher from Georgia. Many draft analysts predicted Smith to go as high as No. 10, so we were ecstatic when he was still available at No. 30. Some attribute his fall in the draft to his smaller size for an edge rusher and a previous pectoral muscle injury. However, Smith’s athleticism is off the charts, evidenced by his impressive 4.39-second 40-yard dash. He reminds me of Haason Reddick, another undersized edge rusher who excelled last season with 16 sacks. This pick was an absolute steal for us. In the third round, at No. 65, we picked up Tyler Steen, an offensive lineman from Alabama. Steen brings valuable experience as a starting tackle in the SEC, having spent three years at Vanderbilt before transferring to Alabama. Standing at 6-6, 321 pounds, he could potentially play guard this season and transition to tackle in the future. Losing Isaac Seumalo and Andre Dillard in free agency left a void in our offensive line, and Steen is a promising addition to help fill that role. Grade: B

At No. 66 in the third round, we selected Sydney Brown, a safety from Illinois. Brown is the first true safety we’ve drafted in quite some time, and we haven’t taken a safety this early since 2011. With six interceptions last season, Brown has proven his playmaking abilities. While he primarily played closer to the line of scrimmage in college, he’ll need to work on covering post patterns at the NFL level. Competing with Reed Blankenship for a starting job, Brown has the potential to make an immediate impact. Although a cornerback might have been a better choice here, we still made a solid pick. Grade: B

To everyone’s surprise, we managed to acquire Kelee Ringo, a highly touted cornerback from Georgia, in the fourth round. Initially, we didn’t have a fourth- or fifth-round pick, but our GM, Howie Roseman, traded up to secure Ringo at the third pick of the fourth round. This move showcases Roseman’s drafting expertise. Ringo, standing at 6-2, 207 pounds and running a 4.37-second 40-yard dash, was projected to go in the second round. He now has the opportunity to learn from veteran stars Darius Slay and James Bradberry. It’s an outstanding pick for us and one we will love. Grade: A

Howie does it again… Philadelphia Eagles 2023 Draft Trade

In addition to the Philadelphia Eagles 2023 draft picks, we also made a significant trade during the draft. We acquired running back D’Andre Swift from the Detroit Lions. While this wasn’t a draft pick, it’s a move that excites us as Eagles fans. With our team’s need for a running back, Swift brings a valuable skill set to our offense. Despite battling injuries, he displayed great potential, averaging 5.5 yards per carry last season. Swift will join a running back rotation that includes Rashaad Penny, Kenny Gainwell, Boston Scott, and Trey Sermon. It’s a fantastic addition to our backfield and provides another weapon for quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the Philadelphia Eagles 2023 draft performance. We addressed key positions and added top talents from Georgia, showing the team’s trust in their abilities. The risk we took with Jalen Carter could pay off immensely, and our other picks bring tremendous potential. I can’t wait to see how these players contribute to the team and propel us to success in the upcoming season. Fly, Eagles, Fly!
